Kristie Leigh Maguire retiring from the world of writing

After publishing several award winning books as an Indie Author, co-founding one publishing house and founding another, Kristie Leigh Maguire has decided to hang up her hat and retire.

She is quoted as saying, "It's been a fun run but all good things must come to an end. Nothing good comes from hanging on too long. It's time for me to leave the writing world. Thanks to everyone who has helped me along the way."

Kristie has pulled all her titles except for No Lady and Her Tramp which she co-authored with Mark Haeuser. It is still available as a free download at Amazon and Smashwords.

5 star Amazon review: Most of the characters in this book were really flawed, and I have to tell you that half way through the read I couldn't imagine how this would work out. But this is one skilled author and this was a really satisfying book. She really explores the characters motivations and leads everyone on quite a journey! I particularly enjoyed the character of Sammy Jo, it would have been so easy to turn her into a paper cut villan but I felt sympathetic towards her, which made the relationship between Mike and Jane all the more interesting. I can't wait to read more books by this talented author.

I picked this up with no real expectations. The book is definitely different. To me it is a black comedy. The story of a redneck, trailer park beautician who decides she will write a book. A steamy one at that.

Most of the story takes place in a trailer park in Grapevine Kentucky. The story is a collaboration between two authors and is far from predictable. Yes you know she is going to write her book but the shenanigans on the way to the conclusion provide the entertainment. I generally don't like books that shift voices but in this one it works. So you have the story being told by the two main characters and the villain.

The book was originally published in 2003 and apparently written in 2000 so it predates facebook, twtter, myspace, etc The plot relies heavily on the chat rooms of that time (mostly gone these days). The book also relies heavily on southern redneck humor so if you are easily offended you probably should pass this one up. While not "Fifty Shades of Gray" there are some fairly graphic sex scenes between the two main characters as well the villain abusing his wife. All in all the book for the most part is an R with a few pages of X thrown in.

I enjoyed it enough to consider other books by these authors.

This is not a book I would have normally picked up (I normally stick to YA fantasy), but I am so glad I did! It's amazing where the pages of a book can take you. In this case, right into the curious lives of the residents of President Park Trailer community-their actions carefully chronicled by the local gossip columnist and busy-body, Shirley Snodgrass, because as she says, "Inquiring minds want to know!"

Kristie Leigh Maguire immediately draws us into the life of the main character, Beth Ann Dixon, a hairdresser married to her childhood love, Billy Ray. One is immediately enthralled by Beth Ann's desire to become an author and we follow her unorthodox but spell binding journey into this dream. Miss Maquire has a wonderful way of fleshing out her characters, each one interesting in their own right. This was an engaging and often humorous story with some really quirky characters. I was sad when it was over and am hoping that I will encounter Beth Ann, Mary Jo, Troy, Billy Ray and Shirley Snodgrass in future publications by this entertaining author.

What motivated you to become an indie author?

I'm a child of the sixties. I like doing things my way.

Do you remember the first story you ever wrote?

The first story I ever wrote was my novel, Desert Heat. Prior to this, I had never really thought about writing a book. I just loved to read. In 1997, I was living in Japan and had a very difficult time finding books to read that were written in English. This was before the e-book revolution. In desperation, I began writing just so I would have something to read. I discovered that I liked writing almost as well as I liked reading.

What is your writing process?

Am I supposed to have a writing process? :) In any case, I don't. I write as the mood strikes me.

Describe your desk

What desk? I got rid of my desk. I have a very comfortable recliner and my laptop. Works for me. :)
